2月15日 Where should a line be drawn?Last night I went out with a couple of girlfriends to see a friend of a friend host a comedy show. Out of six comics (excluding the guy we went to see) I enjoyed three, thought one was funny not because of his jokes but because of his shakes and inability to remember anything he intended to say, thought one should just never get back up on stage because he had no talent, and thought the final one was vulgar, offensive and completely not funny. So where is the line drawn at what constitutes funny. This final gentleman's (if I can call him that) comedy centred around anal sex, let me rephrase: heterosexual anal sex, asking the couples in the audience if they were planning on having anal sex that night, if they ever had had anal sex or if the girlfriend would consider the anal sex her boyfriend desperately wanted ... which leads to other questions in my mind about the sexuality of all these men who desperately want anal sex but that is a whole other story. His shtick also included talking about going to crack whores for his pleasure and then polling the female audience as to what they thought their vaginas were worth (let me tell you ladies $60.00 is what he says b/c there is no difference between you, me and the crack whore with VD). Now I ask as you are reading this do you find anything funny about it? I can tell you the audience didn't laugh at all through his entire routine. He didn't even get the "you're really creeping me out and making me feel uncomfortable" groans that could be mistaken for laughs. He was heckled by the audience about the size of his penis (b/c he kept claiming that the reason anal sex is so appealing to guys is the size of the hole, which led him into the joke "I would screw your tear duct if it meant finding a hole small enough") and yet he didn't give it up. He came up to us after the show to apologize to us for the routine (b/c he and one of my friends were actually arguing about whether or not she has had anal sex ... ummm I don't know how an argument could start unless she had had anal sex without knowing it ... right so she was what abducted by aliens and they probed her using the penis of a male of this species but then they brainwashed her into forgetting the experience ever occurred? Yeah that is it ... we have all had this experience and therefore that is why we deny ever having the anal intercourse that every female has had). But in my inability to comprehend this fella's humour I digress. So he came up to us after the show to invite us to his regular gig at this other bar (because we were clearly so excited at the prospect of hearing about crack whores and anal sex again) and turns out he is an okay guy in one of those "please acknowledge my personal space and double it before you talk to me because I think you are skeezy" kinds of way. So why would a guy who appears to actually be somewhat decent base an entire routine on comedy that for lack of a better word sucks? Why is it so acceptable for humour to be about blowjobs and anal sex and crack whores ... etc (right, not to mention the use of the F-word every 3 seconds). What happened to the Abbott and Costello kind of humour that plays on intelligence instead of bawdiness? Call me nostalgic for a time period in which I was not born but I just do not understand why we cannot encounter good humour that deals with something other than sex. Granted when the sex jokes first began appearing they were funny and worth mentioning because it was a taboo topic but this is 2005: Gay marriage has been legalized in some countries, sexuality is no longer as taboo so GET NEW MATERIAL (or maybe that is just one girl's opinion) 回應 (6)
